New Delhi, Jul 29 (PTI) Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi today lavished praise on the Sikhs, saying the entire nation is thankful to the community for giving it a Prime Minister like Manmohan Singh.
After inaugurating a memorial of Guru Tegh Bahadur, built at a cost of Rs 26 crore, Gandhi told a gathering that Singh was taking the nation forward and working for its progress.

“You people have made the entire nation proud. PM Manmohan Singh is taking the nation forward, he is working for progress of nation. You gave him to us and for this the entire nation is thankful to you”, he said.

“You people from Sikh community, the entire nation is proud of you. You people have propogated India, be it Canada, England or America. You people keep the national flag flying wherever you go”, he added.

Thanking Sheila Dikshit for giving the nation a “beautiful and symbolic monument”, Gandhi said the memorial has been designed in such a way that it propogates the teachings and sacrifices of Guru Tegh Bahadur.

“The nation can progress only when every one walks together hand in hand and that is what Guru Tegh Bahadur said 400 years ago”, said the young leader.

The memorial is located on the Singhu border of Delhi and Haryana.

“The memorial comprises 40 plaques inscribed with the tenets of Sikhism. It is built in the memory of the ninth Sikh Master Guru Tegh Bahadur. It is a symbol of our rich heritage and modern architecture,” a senior official said.
